Tree Topping

Tree topping is the practice of removing whole tops of trees or large branches and/or trunks from the tops of trees, leaving only stubs that are too small to assume the role of a terminal leader. Tree topping can be performed for a multitude of reasons but the most common reasons are:

• Tree top is blocking solar panels
• Tree top is blocking a desired view
• Tree top is unstable

However there are some downsides to tree topping. These downsides include the tree possibly being more susceptible to aphids, caterpillars, and even some pathogens. Because of this the tree’s wood would rot and the tree quickly die.
